Plaster Repair & Restoration in Metro Detroit
Cracks, holes and tired walls returned to flat.
The Grosse Pointes and the older streets of metro Detroit are full of houses with real plaster walls, and real plaster moves. Seasonal humidity swings and a century of settlement open the same cracks again and again. We repair the cause rather than filling the symptom, then bring the wall back to a single flat plane. Walls, ceilings, cornice and cove, if it was built in plaster, it can be brought back in plaster.

Repairing the cause
A crack that keeps coming back was never a filling problem. We assess whether it is settlement, a failed key between plaster and lath, or moisture, and address that first. Otherwise the same line reappears within a season.
Matching what is already there
A patch that is flatter than the wall around it reads as loudly as the damage did. On older homes we match the existing texture and plane so the repair disappears rather than announcing itself.
Skim coating a tired room
Where a wall has accumulated too many patches to blend, a full skim coat returns the whole surface to one flat plane, and gives paint a substrate worth the coating going on it.
Marrying new work into old walls
Additions and past renovations leave these houses with drywall meeting plaster mid-wall, and the joint telegraphs through every repaint. We rework those transitions properly, mesh, setting compound, and a plane trued across the junction, so the wall reads as one surface instead of a timeline of remodels.
Common questions
Do I need a patch or a full skim coat?
A wall with a few isolated cracks wants repair. A wall that has been patched a dozen times over the decades, or whose surface has crazed overall, is no longer one plane, and skimming the whole surface back to flat is the honest fix. We will tell you which yours is, and patching a wall that needs skimming is money spent twice.
Why do the same cracks keep coming back?
Because the cause was never addressed. A crack that reopens every winter is movement. Settlement, seasonal humidity swing, or plaster that has lost its key to the lath behind it. We repair the mechanism, reinforce the line, and then fill it. Fill alone is a season-long fix.
Can you match the texture of my existing walls?
Yes, and it is half the craft. A repair that is flatter and smoother than the ninety-year-old wall around it announces itself as loudly as the damage did. We match the plane and the surface character so the repair disappears.
Is the dust as bad as people say?
Unmanaged, yes. Plaster dust is fine and travels. Managed, no: the room is sealed, sanding runs through extraction, doorways get walk-off protection, and the space is genuinely cleaned every evening. Living through plaster repair should be boring, and with us it is.
