Metro Detroit and the northern lake towns are connected by the houses themselves: the family with a plastered 1920s colonial off Lakeshore is very often the family with a shingled cottage on Little Traverse Bay or a place on Crystal Lake. The houses could hardly be more different. The expectation. That the finish be done properly, by people who noticed the details. Is exactly the same, and it travels well.

Downstate: older, plastered, occupied

The metro Detroit work is largely older housing stock that people live in year-round. That means real plaster and original millwork, and it means working cleanly around a household. Sealed work areas, daily cleanup, and schedules that respect the fact that the house never empties. Prep is the majority of the job on these houses, and it is where the money shows.

Northern Michigan: seasonal, exposed, scheduled

The northern work is the opposite shape: houses that stand empty most of the year, exposed to open-water weather, with a short window when exterior coatings cure properly. Projects there are planned around openings and closings, worked while the family is away, and finished before the season starts. The constraint is never the craft. It is the calendar, and we schedule honestly against it.

What the metro anchors have in common

Grosse Pointe, Birmingham, West Bloomfield and Rochester are four different arguments for the same standard. The Pointes bring century plaster and estate millwork; Birmingham brings the remodel cycle, where our finish is the last trade in and the only one on display; West Bloomfield brings open volume and water light that expose any shortcut in a wall; Rochester brings Victorian trim where the cutting-in is the entire job. The honest unit of scheduling in this trade is the season. Exterior work north of Traverse City fits inside a window that opens late and closes early; downstate stretches longer but still ends; and interior, cabinet and plaster work carry the calendar through winter. We plan a year the way the weather does, which is why the best time to call about summer is winter, and the best time to plan an interior is the moment the exterior is booked. The clients who get the ideal dates are simply the ones who decided earliest, and we would rather tell you that plainly than manage it quietly.

A word on why the anchors are anchors. Each of the nine towns above is somewhere we can talk about the housing stock from experience rather than from a brochure, the plaster behaviour, the exposure, the way the season runs, the way the streets expect a house to look. That specificity is the entire point: a company that claims everywhere serves nowhere in particular, and it is why each page above reads differently from its neighbours.
