Venetian Plaster & Specialty Finishes, Metro Detroit
Venetian plaster, lime wash, and bespoke decorative work.
For homes that ask for something singular. Our finishers hand-apply Venetian plaster, lime wash, and bespoke decorative treatments that add depth, texture, and quiet luxury to a space, the kind of detail you feel before you can name it. These are finishes applied by hand, in thin mineral layers, by people who have done them enough times to make the difficulty invisible, and every one is sampled in the room before it is committed.
Depth you cannot print
Polished plaster and lime wash are not colours, they are materials. Light enters the surface and comes back changed, which is why a limewashed wall looks different at breakfast than it does at dinner and why no flat paint reproduces it.
Applied by hand, by one pair of hands
These finishes carry the trowel work of whoever applied them. We keep one finisher on a room start to finish so the movement stays consistent across the whole surface.
Sampled before committed
Every specialty finish is sampled at scale and approved in the room before we start. There is no way to un-trowel a wall, so the decision happens first.
The substrate work nobody sees
Mineral finishes are honest about what is underneath them, more honest than paint. Walls get trued and primed with the specific mineral grounds each system needs, because lime wash over the wrong primer dries flat and dead, and polished plaster over an unprepared wall reads every flaw at a mirror’s standard. The invisible first day decides the visible result.
Common questions
What is the difference between Venetian plaster and lime wash?
Venetian plaster is trowelled and burnished to a stone-like depth with a soft sheen. It reads as a solid, polished material. Lime wash is a thin mineral wash with a matte, cloudlike movement that shifts with the light. One is jewellery, the other is atmosphere; rooms usually want one or the other, not both.
Are these finishes durable?
Sealed Venetian plaster is genuinely hard-wearing and lives happily in bathrooms and entries. Lime wash develops a patina rather than wearing out. Small marks blend into the finish in a way flat paint never allows. We match the finish to how the room is actually used.
How do we choose before committing a whole wall?
Every specialty finish is sampled at scale, in the room, in its real light, and approved before we start. There is no un-trowelling a wall, so the decision is made on a large sample, never on a photograph of someone else's room.
Can a specialty finish be repaired later?
Yes, each in its own way. Lime wash blends repairs invisibly. It is the most forgiving finish we apply. Venetian plaster repairs are burnished into the surrounding field by hand. We keep the record of exactly what went on your walls, so a repair years later starts from the recipe rather than a guess.
