The association was founded on eighty acres given by the town, and the shingle-style and Victorian cottages along its front have been kept in the same families for generations. Colour schemes on that shorefront are effectively part of the association’s character. We match into them rather than around them.

A shingled elevation has many times the edge and end-grain of a lap-sided one, and end grain is where water gets in. Shingles want a coating that penetrates and breathes rather than one that films over and traps moisture behind it. Get that wrong and the finish lifts in sheets on the weather side.

Harbor Point is gated with a staffed entrance, and much of the work in both associations happens while owners are away. That calls for crews who can be trusted with access, keep a site clean daily, and be finished and gone before the family arrives for the season.

Should shingle siding be stained or painted?
Usually stained, or coated in a breathable system. Shingles carry far more edge and end grain than lap siding, and end grain is where water enters. A heavy film over that traps moisture and lifts in sheets on the weather side; a penetrating finish moves with the wood instead.
